Cough Syrup is a syrup-type treatment item in Animal Hospital (Anomaly) primarily used to treat Flu symptoms during normal diagnosis. It has a secondary utility outside of patient care too — using it also cleans up Slime puddles faster than clearing them without it, alongside the Fire Extinguisher and cleaning by hand as the other two documented ways to deal with Slime. It's one of two syrup-type treatments in the game, the other being Maple Syrup, which cures Low Sugar and 'Canadian' and doubles as a way to make the Bed Monster leave.

Tips & Strategy

  • Its main documented use is treating Flu during patient diagnosis.
  • Keep some on hand for faster Slime cleanup if you're dealing with a lot of dropped puddles — patients often drop Slime randomly while walking to their room or lying in bed.
  • It's not sold in the Supplies Shop — like other base medicine, it comes from patient diagnosis.
  • Slime doesn't just cost cleanup time: stepping in it slows the player down, and it slows an affected patient until they leave its range, so clearing it with Cough Syrup promptly helps keep both moving.
  • Don't confuse it with Maple Syrup — the game's other syrup-type treatment, which cures a completely different pair of symptoms (Low Sugar and 'Canadian') and has its own use against the Bed Monster.
  • The Fire Extinguisher and manual cleaning are the only other documented ways to remove Slime, so Cough Syrup is worth keeping in reserve if you haven't picked up an extinguisher yet (available free from Shift 3).
